Yet another Bosch Powerbox radio release
I was in Home Depot today, and they now have a new style Bosch Powerbox radio/cd player.
The packaging says : “Powerbox advanced” – “The best reception” + “The best sound”, etc. etc. It now has a small whip/swivel antenna and now it comes with a remote control.
Other than that it looks exactly the same, but the handle is redesigned to hold the remote control.
Nothing on the bosch website to notate this new release. In reference to the recent thread where the Powerbox was getting dogged for crappy reception and so so sound, I have the older model with the stupid wire antenna – how smart was that for a jobsite radio? Let’s put a wimpy 4′ wire on this thing and call it an antenna! Not to mention the so so battery charger inside – doesn’t say anywhere how long it’s actually supposed to take to charge a battery in it.
This new one isn’t advanced – it’s just finally right (hopefully). I’ll be on the phone with Bosch first thing and won’t stop till they exchange the faulty one I own for a new finally fixed version. What’s with a radio that won’t tune stations?
If they are no help, interestingly enough the sku bar code is exactly the same as the previous incarnation…
Just thought I’d give anyone who owns one or is thinking about a heads up.

Let me know how that goes. Mine isn't even good enough for a boat anchor. It's a sharp looking functioning four way junction box with built in battery drainer that'll pull in one radio station from about 15' away and play it at a sound equivalent to a set of headphones turned up high and listened to from about 20' away.
Other than that.... it's perfect. Oh yeah... and the CD player skips.

Looks like they might have finally made a good one with this new one.I went ahead and bought one figuring I'll be able to get a warranty-type switch one way or another. After spending $179 - I'd like to end up with something better than a fancy looking power strip.Changes:LCD is now designed to be read from above - the old one was only readable direct on view. With this new one - direct one it's no good - it gets better as you get higher and higher from it.Supposedly, better speakers and more power.Cool and handy remote - nice feature allows you to hang it from your belt loop or key ring, and it clips into the handle for storage.Separate bass and treble controls via "custom" eq setting.Nice swivel flexible whip antenna; no more stupid wire hanging off of it.Just checked - now, "bosch sound" sort of improves the sound, giving it a bit more range, maybe a bit more overall boost - definitely better. The old "Bosch Sound" was so tinny and trebley (sp?) that you had to turn it off every time you listened to music.Seems like a winner, looking forward to seeing how the ipod holder works.JT
Oh my gosh lol I don't have a Bosch radio but I do have a Bosch washer and dryer. I was gonna say why the heck would anyone trust a tool manufacturer to make a good radio when I remembered I have a washer and dryer by them and it works ok. Then again I am deaf and wear hearing aids so a radio wouldn't do me any good anyways. Glad to hear they improved the radio.Handyman, painter, wood floor refinisher, property maintenance in Tulsa, OK
Yep, Bosch is a pretty darn big and a pretty darn good company overall in my opinion. That's why I figured the radio was gonna be a slam dunk when I bought. I've had good luck with products from them ranging from a dozen power tools or so, to good Bosch sparkplugs, to a SS Bosch dishwasher we had. They do a lot and they do most of it well.
This is pretty funny...I have NEVER listened..even to try it...the FM section of my box since I got it. Always have Sirius on. Never noticed the battery charger problem either. I just stick 'em in and pull them out later. Is it slow??
Mine has NO antenna whatsoever. I got one of the first ones.Jake Gulick

If you have one of the very first ones, than you might be able to get them to upgrade you with not much hassle - worth a shot - the very first ones did have an issue with the electronics that would drain a battery in them if left overnight.JT
L-
I had called the Bosch service # explaining about the first edition bosch boombox and they said send in it and they'll send me a new one with the added external antenna and new designed charger.
I went to the neighborhood Lowes, explained the situation, and they let me exchange the box even up even tho I didn't buy the box there in the first place.

That's a killer deal razz. I think that's the best work radio of the bunch. In fact I just bought another one but not at that low of a price. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some of the other does, but it does exactly what I want a jobsite radio to do. Play music, play it well, and play it loud while taking all the abuse the boys can throw at it.
Ya, I saw the $50 and thought what in the world.
Im thinking it's just an advertising promo and not really an income producer for them. Just too cheap to be anything else.
In fact if it wasn't from those guys I'd have been suspicious.
I'm wondering if I'll be able to trade my older Bosch box up to that new deal.

Dat's the one I got- I'm chuckling reading about all the Bosch owner's problems.
I wanted a RADIO- not some fancy-schmancy battery charger. So I got the Milwaukee about 1-1/2 years ago. Reception is great; I can tune in any station in the area. And it sounds good cranked up.
I'll keep my chargers separate.
Another vote for the Milwaukee- think it sounds the best and so far has proven to be tough.
That's a good deal on the milwaukee. I've never bought anything from heavydutytools.net, any thoughts?
thanks.
I Ordered on the other day and it shipped the very next day. $4 for shipping to MI.I've heard good things about them elswhere - and occasionally they have deals that cannot be beat like this one.For instance, they were selling the Bosch 12 volt impact kit for $135 - when everyone else was at $199. Right now they have Dewalt 18 volt batteries for $42.Good site to keep an eye on.JT
Thanks. I just ordered one tonight.
You could probably still send in the form from HD and get the free CD player that goes with it. That would really make it a bargain.

If it makes you feel any better, I have the DeWalt job radio and it's garbage. The reception is heinous, the clock won't stay programmed, and you have to fiddle with batteries to make sure the charger starts charging them. Sometimes the red light blinks for an hour, then the battery is still dead when it goes steady. If I was still prone to temper flares I probably would have torched the thing on a burn pile.
It does get one last chance--I'm going to get a satellite receiver and connect it to the 'line in' and see if that works. If the sound is decent then I'll grant a stay of execution. I have worked with a Milwaukee radio and it sounds better.
Dave,
We have the Milwaukee and I have my IAudio X5 hooked up to it so I can play mp3, flac, wav, etc. I need to put some more music on it though.
I have the 1st version of the DEWALT radio and apart from an occasional reception problem (fixed with a bigger antenna), it runs fine. I know of at least 3 people who bought the newer version, and all have had problems ranging from the clock not working, stations drifting and other problems.Renaissance Restorations LLCVictorian Home Restoration Serviceshttp://www.renaissancerestorations.com
