Hello. Can Z type flashing be used to protect the top of the fascia or does it have to be a drip edge? I am putting decorative trim on my fascia but don’t want too much of the top of it to be covered up by the drip edge. Would it be okay to use a Z type flashing instead?
Thanks

Not if you are talking about the typical cheap small AL z-metal
But it would be better than nothing which is what a lot of guys use.

If you have a better detailed description , our local copper guru can fabricate any type of flashing you can envision. Smaller face profile, special bends..do it right.

Thanks Sphere. Here are a couple of pics. One is of the flashing and another of the mock up fascia and trim with Z flashing on top.
That appears to me to be not what you want. The water can and will wick around that flat ( yes, even uphill) and is not suitable.
A drip edge has a small kick verticaly that dispels the water away from the fascia or trim. Not a flat table that slows the progress and allows capillary action to wick.
Being as you have what appears to be crown, you want a smaller face on the DE...I.E. custom if you cant find it locally.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Thanks Sphere. So I need a drip edge with a small kick. I hope I can find one around here.
Check with SeeYou. He's either got it or can bend it for you.http://www.grantlogancopper.com'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb

Go to the lumberyard and ask for a ~1/2" x 3" drip edge made with a kickout on the 1/2" leg. Trace the crown molding full size on a piece of paper and then sketch in exactly what you want for flashing. The lumberyard guys can order it from a metal roofing supplier or another sheet metal place. Not likely that anyone stocks what you want. I get stuff made all the time.
Thanks David. I'll give it a try.
I know you have written lately about fabricators. This who I used in the past. Great company.

The metal roofing manufacturers up here will all make flashing, which I like because I can get it in their kynar paint finishes.
