Is zoned heating worth $2300.00? I am building a 3300 sqft two story house. I was given a bid for heating which included an option for zoned heat. The two zones would be the 1st floor and the 2nd floor. The cost is an extra $2300. Is zoned heat something I should consider given the square footage of the house? Thanks

Think of your lifestyle. If you use the whole house all the time then I would say no. If the up stairs is only for sleeping and at that only half the rooms are used on a regular basis then consider it.

Doesn't seem like too much to me. It's certainly cheaper to do it now than to change it later on.
You might be able to save a lot of the money back with auto setback thermostats - Keep the bedrooms warm at night, while the rest of the house is colder. And the other way around during the day.

IF this is the house you are going to live in & IF air conditioning is included, 2 zones are a nice feature at that price. If it's heat alone, I wouldn't bother.

I zoned ours last year. (2 story colonial) Previous to zoning, the upstairs would be very difficult to cool in summer---downstairs would be like an icebox while upstairs was on the slightly warm side of comfortable. In addition, at night when the cooling load lessened, the colder air would seettle to downstairs and hotter air moved upstairs, creating an undesirable situation.
Heating was less of a problem, but the bedrooms upstairs were warm from rising heated air just when you wanted to get to sleep.
Zoning with set back thermostats allows us to maintain the constant temp both up and down, within 2 degrees. Using the set back feature, we can let the bedrooms cool off early in the evening for sleeping in the winter, and turn down th etemp in the summer and keep the humidity down with the air in the summer.
Best $2500 we spent--wish we did it 20 years ago when we built the house.
Its also a selling feature when you plan to leave, so you can recoup a little of the cost.
