This kitchen was part of a whole house remodel that included the entire first floor of the home, an addition to the rear of the home with a screen porch and open cooking porch, and adding a laundry room and large closet to the room adjacent to the master bedroom on the second floor. The homeowners purchased the home in 2009. After moving in they realized the kitchen remodel and addition completed a few years earlier by the previous owners was pretty, but not functional. The previous owners built an addition that included space for a closet and laundry room, but left a collection of small, dysfuntional rooms. Our plan included removing a large masonry chimney in the center of these small rooms which allowed us to open up the space. Since the existing kitchen cabinetry was high quality and only a few years old most of it was salvaged and we added to it to complete the kitchen. The new kitchen space opens into a cozy family room with a new fireplace. Behind the family room, and still open to the kitchen, is a new dining space. Most of the interior walls in this section of the house were removed but the spaces are still defined by columns and beams, some decorative, some structural. The old laundry/closet area was converted to small mudroom and bar area. All areas open onto the screen porch, with vaulted ceiling and gas fireplace.
