The homeowners entertain a lot and wanted a kitchen big enough to accommodate multiple cooks and guests, but compact enough to be easy for one cook to use. There was a sunny music room behind the cooktop and we decided to bring in some more light that way–but keep cooking fumes and grease in the kitchen. Lots of moldings, fluted columns and varying door heights and sizes add character and class.

The kitchen looks out across a sunroom to the lake beyond, and sits at the center of the house without blocking the flow of traffic.

The round interior window lets light pass through and makes the room feel even bigger, but keeps cooking aromas and moisture at bay. The arch echoes the curve of the window.

Because the wall ovens aren't next to a countertop, we created a landing zone with a drawer just below counter height and lined it with granite to resist heat.

Two dishwashers in an island raised 3" to lessen bending over provide plenty of cleaning capacity but aren't seen from the living areas. A double pullout wastebasket and plenty of extra shelves are in the back of the island.

Special storage and features make for a more pleasant and easily accessed workspace. The space below the cooktop is flanked with two narrow angled pullouts for oils and spices.
