Our New Design Blog
Noun 1. square one – the situation in which you begin an endeavor and to which you return if your efforts fail
All building and remodeling projects, despite their scale, start at the same point. They begin with a picture clipped from a magazine, a floor plan sketched on a napkin, a digital photo saved to a desktop folder, an idea inspired by a blog. They begin at square one.
Welcome to Fine Homebuilding’s newest blog. Here you’ll find expanded coverage on all things residential design. Expect more than great photos of beautiful projects. We want to inspire you, but our ultimate objective is to help you achieve inspiring results in your own projects. Through this blog, we’ll show you how to design well and explain why certain design elements do and do not work. Use this blog as a resource in those early stages of project planning.
I’ll be calling on a host of Fine Homebuilding’s contributing architects and designers to share what they know, but I want to hear from you too. This is a forum for collective brainstorming on designing better homes. If you have questions, post them. They will be answered. If you have projects that you’d love to share send them to our editorial inbox at firstname.lastname@example.org with SquareOne in the subject line.
Like all projects, this blog will evolve over time. I hope you enjoy every bit of the process.
