Fine Homebuilding senior editor Justin Fink took a closer look at Makita's redesigned LS1016L 10-in. sliding compound miter saw to see if its laundry list of upgrades could stand up against the toughest job-site challenges.

The miter saw features a larger cutting capacity than comparable models thanks to an increase in its table size, a four-rail slide system that gives it up to 12-in. of cross cut capacity at 90 degrees, and a flip-up blade guard that provides slightly more vertical cutting capacity. Unfortunately, it can't handle vertical baseboard cuts greater than 4-3/4 in. tall, which would have been a nice option.. Still, these features make it nearly comparable to leading 12-in. compound miter saws. 

Most notable is the new electronically-controlled motor that allows it to make heavy cuts without bogging down, similar to systems from the more expensive Festool Kapex miter saw. For the complete details of our tool test and a full rundown of new features, watch our in-depth video review.
