I don’t do a whole lot of hardwood flooring, and when I do, it’s prefinished flooring. I guess this lack of experience is the reason that I often end up with damage to the finish along the edge of some flooring planks. No matter if I hit the pneumatic flooring nailer hard or soft, shim it up or lower it down, let it recoil or hold it firmly – I always seem to end up with chips and dents.
I did a little online research, figuring I must not be alone in this problem. I came across a product called Nailer Shoe, which attaches to the bottom of the flooring nailer/stapler and acts as one part training wheels, one part insurance.
Basically, the Nailer Shoe increases the bearing surface for the nailer, and distributes it across the tongue of the hardwood plank rather than above the tongue, where its more likely to leave damage.
So, does it work? Well, I have no idea…at least not yet. I just got the little bugger in the mail today, and my next flooring install isnt until later this month. But I wanted to offer Tool Hound readers a head’s up on a potentially cool product, and to see if anybody else has tried this product? If it works, I’ll probably do a video demonstration and post it here sometime down the road.
