One of the things I like most about living in New England is the variety and richness of its architectural heritage. Some towns are almost like an encyclopedia of early American architecture. This photograph taken in Wiscassett, Maine shows the fluted columns and ionic capitals of a Greek Revival church, juxtaposed against the (probably Italianate) house next door, complete with cupola on the roof. The overall effect of this architectural integrity and history is pleasing and inviting, and is a reminder of the importance of preserving our architectural inheritance…
