Had to play the ad 3 times to get the video to play. Not pleased. If you're going to lengthen the cord,try to increase the gauge of the wire.
I would cut the wire leaving an inch of the existing wire on the terminal so matching the color wire to the existing location will be correct. Or take a picture of the existing before it is removed.
This is a good time to follow up on a user submitted tip I read here a while ago - when replacing the male plug end choose a right angle plug; they are much less likely to pop out from an extension cord because it slightly alters the direction of pull.
Save time and money. A pro-quality extension cord costs less than 3-conductor service cord plus a do-it-yourself plug. Cut off the receptacle end and you're ready to install. And it's orange!
