Deck Brackets Space Ledger off Wall
Maine Deck Brackets leave plenty of space for exterior insulation behind the deck ledger
The house will have a wrap-around deck. 4 ft wide along the south wall leading to a 12 ft x 14 ft. main deck area. In order to have continuous insulation over the exterior of the walls without a break where the deck ledger is mounted, we’re using Maine Deck Brackets. They space the ledger off the wall about 3 1/2 in. – just enough for the 2 in. of exterior insulation plus rainscreen space and siding.
The wall flange of the bracket is recessed into the wall sheathing so it’s mounted directly to the rim joist with bolts. Then the recess is pre-flashed with flexible membrane. After the brackets are bolted on a second layer of flashing tape bridges over the flange and bolt heads making the WRB continuous and sealing against air leaks.
