Hello, my name is Jim. I am going to buy a bosch miter saw and I am leaning toward the 10″ slider but I have discovered that I can buy the 12″ slider for much cheaper but I believe it is an older model. Is anybody out there familiar with the bosch Model 4212L? I am not familiar with this model and was wandering if this is a good saw. Is it equivalent to the newer models (if this is not a newer model)? Thanks for all your help.

asking this question is as good as opening a 6 front polictical debate...
that is a good saw.. go for it...
now if you go to the search function and if it works for you type in SCMS and stand back...
there are 2 versions of search.. the quick mode (bottom left of the screen) and advancened.. (top left)
you can also enter different criteria, brand, model #'s.. etc..

BTW.. I don't believe the 4212 is a slider...
once ya haves slide capabilities.. there's no going back...

Maybe it's the 12" Bosch 4212L saw that I'm selling that you are referring to, not sure, but the 4212L is Bosch's current model dual bevel non sliding laser 12" miter saw.

I bought the 10" slider but after seeing the new 12" when it came out I wish I waited a bit. If $$ is not an issue I'd go for the 12.
That's simply amazing, you know this $$$ thing has been in my way for buying more tools then you can imagine. I thought it was only me but now I know that this $$$ thing is a problem with everyone, I feel so much better. Thanks!!
I would disagree with ubc: I would get the 10" unless I really thought I was going to need the 12". If you have to move the saw around, it'll weigh more. Blades are more expensive, and they deflect more. I think 10" is a nice size- it'll cut 4x, but not 6x. 12" won't cut 6x either.

How much deflection can one get with a SCMS or CMS. I've never used a 12" only 10" . never noticed any deflection on a 10" but have heard mention of it before.
Well, it's not all just in the blade, but I won't use the Rigid 12" at work when I can use a 10" saw to do the same thing, which is usually. With the Rigid, it's pretty easy to wiggle it around 1/16". The blade might deflect about half of that, and it's the sort of thing you'd see when you're recutting a miter or shaving a bit off of some hard wood- the blade will follow the previous cut a little bit.
I know there are lots of people who use 12" saws as their everyday saws for very precise work. I just wouldn't do that unless I thought I needed it. If I need to finish a big cut, I'll pull out my handsaw, and clean up with a block plane.zak

As someone else said this is not a slider. It is a very good dual bevel 12" compound saw.
