My Granny passed away and has left my dad her farm.
About 100 acres in Western MA, an old dairy farm the barns are gone, but the
house is still standing. The front brick wall is pulling away from the house.
It is “bowed out” roughly 4″ above the front door.
We have contracted a mason who plans to demo the wall and rebuild with
brick and block. He says the rest of the house is solid.
His estimate for the job is $60k which pretty much means I will be doing
most of the other work (dad too)
I have lots of questions.
The interior trim (now dk brown!) tests pink for lead.
I was thinking of scraping a bit and painting over to seal it in.
Every room is covered with (ceilings too) wall paper.
is the best way to remove wallpaper to rent a steamer & steam it off?
In places where the walls need work would joint compound be the right chioce?
I would rather leave as much of the original plaster alone, just repair it.

Helps to keep the posts about the house all in one thread.
Cheers
