Doesn’t compare in scope (or quality I’m sure) to what most of you have done, but just finished my first “large” scale for hire gig. Built this bathroom from scratch out of an empty third floor attic space. Had nothing, no electric, plumbing, etc when I started. I gave up counting (too depressing) but I’d say I have about 350 hrs in it start to finish. Anyway, many of you had been so generous with time and advice I though I’d post a photo since I’m fairly proud of it. Sorry for the picture quality, of all people (I’m currently in the photography business), my camera went berserk when I shot these. The barreling btw, is from using a fish eye lens. Any comments or suggestions (short of “what a butcher”) are welcome…

What a hack! with the camera, I mean.
Nice bathroom. I envy you a little in that you started with an empty room. So many times the customer wants to take an exisdting room and make it into something it ain't ... and cain't be.
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
Believe me, you shouldn't be envious. I had to demo and reframe the floor, which sloped 3" in ten feet, as well as go down two floors to put the plumbing in the crawlspace under the house. Not to mention it was hotter than h*** many of the days I was up there. But... all a learning experience ;) Thanks for the compliment!

How big is the room?Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
Veryyyyyyyyyy small. About ten feet front to back and maybe 9 feet wide. Needed every inch of headroom which is why the inset ceiling (this is a summer only cottage).
Beautiful job/design...(shouldn't you straighten that toiled?)
LOL... it's angled on purpose, the HO's wife, for who it was built didn't feel there was enough clearance getting out of the shower otherwise, plus it would have been even closer to the window. And thank you!
I assume from tne pic that is real hardwood floor?...I've done a few baths with t/g walnut with great sucess both cosmetic and functional (according to the home owner)
What the size of the shower?
I like the bead? on the wall...classic look for cottage bath.
Thanks Lenny! Yes, I got the flooring from Lumber Liquidators, don't recall the species anymore. The shower is a 32" square (I believe it was) pan. I did the tiling (actually every d**n thing) myself. I liked the beadboard as well, and in spite of making me totally insane at many points during the project, the clients ultimately were very pleased as well...
What finish do like to use on a hardwood floor in a bath? BTW, Paul, like the bath a lot - nice ceiling.

Nice job. We do a lot of bathrooms, wish our first one looked that good! DanT
Man, you guys are making me feel great, thanks I need the pickup ;)
In truth there are certainly flaws that don't show in the photos but overall I'm pretty pleased. The flooring was prefinished, not terribly glossy so I thought it was a safe surface for wet feet. The salesman told me it was rated for occasional water exposure, hope he's right ;)

Bath hardwood floor....use a top grade urethane clear varnish...you'll know it's a top grade cuz it cost the most.
Fabulon from Canada was the last one I used.
For semigloss...start with a couple of coats of gloss first then 2 coats of semigloss
Put on at least 3 preferably 4 coats 24 hours apart.
Walnut takes the finish better than white oak (in my experience) more bubbles and "Back brushing" with the oak.
Finishing is a pain but makes the biggest splash with the HO
I sthis the one that you were worrying about getting paid on or something about how both the HO and you were wishing you had never started on it?
See how nice when you persevere?
I'm impressed

LOL... now THAT'S a memory! This is the job that the HO said he wished we'd never started. I'm flattered both that you remembered and for the compliment, thank you! I'm trying to take all these very kind comments and use them to offset the terror I'm feeling at going into this full time... A lot of the success (such as it is) for this job is from the folks here that talked me through the rough spots, and kept me from blowing my stack. Thanks...
Nice... I like it..
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming....
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Thanks! I'm feeling a lot more positive now that it's under my belt...
