Did you see the price of those at woodcraft and a few other places? That's a lot of router for the price, but I can't say that I know of anyone who uses them. For the price it would be hard to beet.

beet?

JFord,
Look at a shaper instead.. routers with that sized bits are particularly scary and several places sell shapers for prices cheaper than you can buy high end routers.. http://WWW.Grizzly.com or Jet both sell modestly priced shapers Grizzly's little on is $295. most of those smaller ones will hold router bit's as well as proper cutters.. but you will find the far longer life of a cutter easily offsets the slight added cost of them..
Best for WHAT?
And how do you range the different FEATURES?
What do you want to use it for. A boat anchor? Plunge router, table?
You might want to look at this one.

But I think that the it might be a little wider than 3 1/4.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Took me a minute - at first I thought it was a bum link -- but now I get it.
LMAO.

One of my pet peeve's is the question "What is the best ####".No clue as to what they want to use it for or how to rate the different features. So my answer is always something that is an ####, but in most likely is a thousand miles from what they where thinking about..

Man, we're on the same page on that one - literally.
Here's an excerpt from a post of mine over on Knots a few days ago:
"(My pet peeve is posts asking "what's the BEST duct tape?. "what's the BEST sandpaper", "what's the BEST screwdriver". Man, get a grip!)"
Great minds yada yada . . . .

The PC Speedmatic has long been the standard for mounting in a router table. Mine last longer than the larger DeWalts. Couple it with a aftermarket lift (most are sized to the PC first, others with adapters) and you have a nice mini-shaper system with above board bit changes. I haven't tried the Triton, Fein or Festool - I know the Festool will be a great performer, but beastly expensive.
I don't know Frenchy - building a decent collection of shaper bits is a lot more expensive than 1/2" router bits... Kind of depends on what you're making.

webted,
The shapers I buy start at $21.95 and go up whereas a similar router bit with about 1/5 th the life starts at $14.95.
The big shaper bits are priced right about where the big router bits are.. +or- $5.00
I have had the F2000 for about 8-9 years now mounted under the router table. It has served me well. A local retailer had recon. ones for $99.
