The slate job I am not at today is a 16×30 ( give or take) pool house/excercise room.
It has these full accordian /slider type doors from Germany..on the long sides..they open and fold and slide like freakin origami..last week the lead carp(?) was pulling his nostril hairs out , after loosing all his head hair, trying to get the tracks “just right”..18K a side.
Now I now a little about finicky doors , hell, I made many. This stuff is beyond belief. By the by, the two sets cost as much as I paid for my house and five acres. This IS Kentucky ..well, they got horses, I don’t.
So being a a bright sub contractor, I opt for shielding them from our dribbles of slate that is ineveitable when roofing above these things..
My questions are..
Have you ever heard of such a thing? I mean, whatthe
makes these SO special?
I hope to be there tomorrow, so I can get a pic or ten..and I have the camera.
I guess I need to get some better looking horses, obviously, they attract wealth. I still don’t know for sure if the HO’s want to see the pool, the horses, the Mexican labor, or the sunset…but they are full view..with grilles..now that seems stupid.
be shaking my head and thankful for the work.
O Btw..the contractor&
#160;can’t afford a layer of straw to keep us from schlepping in ankle busting mud..but a 300K poolhouse is just fine.
I need a life.

I saw a 9000.00 Mahogoney door the other day, and was beside myself (well I was beside the door too).
No way could I ever fathom that kind of coin for a standard "looking" door.
Now your telling me that there are 18,000.00 doors out there?!?!?!?!?
PS, you still have those 5 acres available for that price??-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Naw. I ain't selling the back 40, just yet. . I have artifacts to claim ( arrow heads) and justa nuf will, to let the whole thing blossom into a dead lot..I 'll keep it as is, fallow.
My area is growing so fast, it is mind boggling, this flag lot is my haven from them. I may sell the front house if I finish it, and get a teepee, and a bayliner cruiser, just to F with thier heads.

I saw a local house (Oceanfront, NE Florida) with German made Tischler impact windows and doors and allegedly the window/door budget (50+ windows and 10+ door units) was $280,000.
http://www.tischlercommercial.com/
What is sad is a blowing rain will go through them in a storm and ruin everything in the house even if they don't "fail" structurally.
where are you in NE FLA? I know tischler and I know zeluck. tischler can't carry zeluck's skates.

No glass, but wonder what the doors of the Parthenon would cost today in total production cost in manhours? Probably a LOT cheaper than then, but still would be many K$$ now.
I'm curious where that $ figure came from. Chip tell you that or one of the other subs?

Carp on site, I don't recall a "chip" in the masses....BS? might be, but them doors are serious shid. I don't doubt withthe HVAC I saw under ground, and the site in general..we are talking , a whole bunch o' cash...

Ahh yes - expensive doors.
I'll try to get some pics of a project I GC'ed for a year, romodel/rebuild entire house.
Sposed to have $38,000 front door package.
When the money started to get a little slow, I didn't order the doors.
Good thing I didn't - like I said, I'll try to get pictures - $1,000,000.oo house w/ OSB front entrance. - for four years.
Remodeling Contractor just on the other side of the Glass City
My old boss at ThermaTru, who could not stand being retired at 55, bought a door making outfit in Phoenix.
I visited his plant a couple times, and saw some pretty grand entrances being made, for which the price was in the $20K range . . . for just the front door and its surrounding glass openings. And glass was not included!

First consideration is that this is a pool house. Think for a minite about what humidity and chlorine vapours will do to a typical door.
Then you say this is special hardware situation and a whole door wall not just one door
So how many units make it up?
Probably 8 or 10 minimum.
18K divided by ten door panels is only $1800 per door.
The standard door blanks we build for interior work with no hardware and poplar are about eight bills each before any paint. yours have tempered glass and hardware thrwon in. Sounds like a steal of a deal to me
I installed a set of Marvins once for a pool house that was a six unit for twelve grand

Piffin - you say standard door blanks you build no hdwe or paint eight bills?
is that for your bldg that door on site or is that cost you pay to your supplier for an already made door?
here in the land of dougfir and a few door shops we can get a beautiful( w/ one round bore ) 5 panel dougfir door blank for less than $ 130 and in the end it is all so darn expensive - unbelievable that you have to start out at $ 800 ?!
I paid $300 for 5 panel doug fir blanks. I need some 3-0 x 9-0 custom 7-panels. I don't want to venture how much they will cost here in the east. Got any good suppliers you might recommend out there.
the only custom doors that I've dealt w/ were carved doors or doors w/ carving
Plywood Tacoma 800 468 6848 is where I go look at doors
they will not let me buy them there ( they do sell sheet goods & some millworks ) but i take the specs to a hanger like Johnson's Millwork who will get the door for me and set it up - they also make custom doors if PlyTac does not stock something that works ( Johnson's 253 472 5900 )remember not too long ago not being too far from ordering a french pair of storm / screen doors from someone real close to you - advertises in Old House Journal or something like that
hope they can work it out for you
Thanks John, I'll give them a try. My local lumber yard gets there doors from Simpson, and custom orders come from Washington anyway.
That is custom made to match existing with proper bolections and blind stopped mortised, five or six panel. Made in shop, not on site.blanks from manufacturer run abhout three bills for good ones. I can get some for what you quote, but I wouldn't use them in the houses I work on.
