4 Inch IC remodel recessed lights
Where can I find these, and in a reduced depth? Every site I find on the web only has the NON-IC product in a 4 inch light.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

The 4" cans i've seen are already relatively small. I've not had any problem finding them at the big boxes.
How shallow do ya need?
I'm looking for something no more than 4 1/2 inches tall. I encountered an old knob and tube wire directly above the hole I cut to put in the two can lights.
I would rather not mess around with splicing old knob and tube.
I've seen some pretty small halogen units at the big boxes (as I recall, they weren't right in with the regular units -- you may have to ask) -- otherwise, you're kind of limited by the size of conventional bulbs. Even so, heat may be an issue with that old insulation so close. Unless I'm mistaken, I see some re-wiring in your future.
Er, one hole for two cans?

Mike,
It's actually two holes for two cans.
I grew up in the Burg. Where yunz from?
"I grew up in the Burg. Where yunz from?"
South Hills - Mt. Lebanon. I'm currently living in (and rebuilding - or should I say "redding up"?) the house I grew up in. But I refust to say "yunz". I did see one of those football-shaped bumper stickers that so many vacation spots seem to issue now that said "YNZ", then "Pittsburgh, PA" in small letters - "n'at".

About 4 5/8's?http://www.ccl-light.com/docs/indoor/recessed/3in12vrecessed/chm3rt/index.html

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Cool unit. Don't look like an IC tho', which I (kinda sorta) gather that the OP is looking for.

That was for Gary, he said that he had k&t wiring above it.That site has lots of interesting stuff.http://www.ccl-light.com/docs/indoor/recessed/index.htmlBut I did notice on the 4" remodels that they are AIR TIGHT, but non-IC.Strange combination.Including retro fit kits for MR-16 bulbs in 6 and 4" cans..

Wait, there's a K&T wire over the fixture, and there's to be insulation contact?
Uhm, isn't insulation contact still a no-no with K&T?Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
"Wait, there's a K&T wire over the fixture, and there's to be insulation contact?"
Apparently not. That was just me miscombobulating two different posts into one.

All of the 4 inch IC-rated cans of which I am aware have the rectangular housing, i.e new work. You can get 5 and 6 inch cans that are old work and IC-rated and can be installed in a hole from below.
If the k&t is in the way, I would think you could spice it and use the junction boxes on the lights to house the splices.
I would rather not touch the knob and tube wiring, and I will not be putting insulation around it!
I'll try CCL Lighting to see if they will sell say four of the units instead of six. I went to my local lighting dealer, and they do not carry any "reduced depth" units. I think CCL is the company to go with here.
Sept. 9 Pittsburgh at Cleveland, let the games begin!
I have bought from them before and although the cans were okay, the fixtures had to be returned and I still have not been credited. This was back in April. If you only need four, I think both Lowes and Home Depot have Halo 4 inch IC-rated cans for less than $20 each. Halo's are nicer than what you get at CCL and you won't have a hassle if you have to return something.
Here is short 6" IC can old work can.

And they have all kinds trim.
And they have kits to install MR-16 bulbs and those kits have small openings.

Billy,
Thanks for the info. I'll have to decide if I want to buy 6 of those or not. Can't believe they have to sell them that way. Anyhow, thank you!
You might want to print tht out and then check with local lighting stores and see if they ahve anything similar. Might even recoenize the brand..
