I need to modify the rubber stop for a 48″ wide pocket door. The stop is screwed to the jack stud deep inside the pocket. How to reach the mounting screw? Does anyone know of a 48″ extension for a screwdriver or drill bit?
If I can get the old one out, I will put the next one on the edge of the pocket door itself!

You probably have to make one up with several shorter extensions. Call you friends and neighbors, you may be able to cobble up something.
Or go buy 3 of 18" extensions.
Having formerly been a mechanic I have sockets that have screwdriver tips. Stick one of them onto as many socket extension rods you need/can get your hands on - and you are home free.
Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
Unfortunatly he's also screwed if one of the sockets slips off!Rebuilding my home in Cypress, CA

Oh yeah -- I'm definitely gonna use the duct tape, and a magnetic screwdriver bit!
I'll look in the store, or maybe a pawn shop, for some inexpensive drill bit or socket extensions.
quarter drive extensions come in 24" lengths..

Cut yourself a new stop from some rubber or whatever.
Glue it on to the back side of the door when it is pulled out.
Come to think of it, it sounds like you have the door removed.
Does it make any difference to you whether the stop is attached to the door or the stud?
PS
Just leave the old one in place.

That's how we do it, stop on the door... but we've also been known to cut holes in the sheetrock to work on stops for weird tracks, or systems... Haefel springs to mind, gotta cut some rock<G> Winterlude, Winterlude, my little daisy,

Go down about 2/3rds the page and it shows extensions which you can shank in 1/4" bits.
