The windows in my home are trimmed with 4×4 oak on the inside (the oak takes the place of normal interior casing trim).
However, the double-hung TILT windows can’t easily tilt due to the vertical pieces being just a fraction TOO CLOSE (installation error).
Is there a easy and aesthetic way of removing about 0.25″ from the inside of these vertical pieces so that the window will tilt as designed?
The oak is finished with rough chisel marks, so a smooth finish wouldn’t keep with the rest of the design.
Thanks for your ideas!

No, there is no easy way I know of. If the trim is too small there is no way to make it bigger.
Sorry.
*first, who trimmed them? can you get them back to correct it if you paid some one to do it? second, will they not open because of the catch mechanism being in the way, or does whole window sash interfere with trim? are these replacements or new construction and why is trim done in oak? was it to hide poor installation? or just to get different look? your easiest solution may be to remove the trim and re-cut the edge to give clearance. since it is "rough finished", you should be able to make things look o.k.
