Posted this on Knots. didn’t know if any BT’ers would be interested.
Lowes had the 2 pack of 6″ Irwin quick grip clamps for $16.98. That is better than paying $15.98 for one. Special deal hanging on the end of the clamp isle.
(I think this pic is really the 12″). I got two of them (4 clamps). A bit small, but you NEVER have too many clamps! =]

If you buy them at Lowes you get a free year of Fine Woodworking Magazine. The form prints out at the register.
If you are already a subscriber, you can add a year on for free.

Hmm... all they gave me was the regular receipt. Why would they give you a $40 subscription for buying $17 worth of clamps?

because half of the clamps we have slip and are junk! They are making you feel better
I have about 8 of those clamps and my company has some. they've always worked well for me.Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
I don't know why. But I sent in the form that printed out with my receipt two days ago. Did you buy the two pack mini 6" inchers? Item 96054? Why would they give away a $40 subscription? Well the web site sells it for $35, you are quoting the cover price. And other sources sell the subscription much cheaper. LIke:
http://www.bonusmags.com/fine_woodworking.html for $20.
In my case I got two free clamps for a $20 magazine subscription.
Also, if I hadn't forgotten my wallet I would have spent $50 dollars more. Only had $40 on me. But, I am pricing planers and jointers so it could have been $300 to $1000 that I spent. Given the retail mark-up, Lowes would still have come out a few dollars ahead if I had only spent $50 or $60 bucks. I sent the form to a Lowes address for processing. They now know that I (a woodworker) buy FWW. I presume they will capture my address and e-mail from the form and they will attempt to market their products and services to me and others like me in FWW and thru mailers and targeted sales catalogs.
Or maybe I am just full of it and you caught me on it.
I'll ponder these and other questions in those months that I don't receive my free issues of FWW to keep me entertained, courtesy of Lowes and Irwin. Like why would I lie about this? To get my jollies?
By the way, some guy on another forum said the box display of the clamp two pack describe the deal with FWW. The Lowes I went to had these clamps hanging on hooks in the tool section. (One guy said they were displayed by the crown moulding).
Also, there is good will. I usually shop at HD. Why because there were no Lowes around me previously. They gave me a free subscription to FWW. I'll shop there more now. I saw that their associates ask me questions like: Can I help you? The HDs around me don't have good customer service anymore. It's a keep my busy job for them apparently.

Checked my receipt. Looks like we were dealing with two different specials. The regular 6"ers were regular priced at $15.98/ea. Special deal pack was two-fer $16.98. No magazine included with them.
The subscription offer was on the mini-6"ers. $19.88.
I went ahead and got a pack of the mini's. Just for the magazine of course ;)
I'm happy with both deals. Added 6 clamps to the collection.

Hey T, get in here and tell him why Lowes would give away a subscription to a Taunton magazine...
The person you offend today, may have been your best friend tomorrow It is easy to be friends with someone you always agree with.
Weeeelllll.........
Lowes owns Taunton...
But taunton is under STRICT orders to deny deny deny....
Taunton is losing their professional customer base to less DIY publications...
a 40$ subcription for buying 16$ clamps...
Just goes to show how much a subscription is really worth these days...
Yes the clamps are over priced junk...
But wait until Lowes buys out USA today and merges the editorial staff with Taunton's....
Andy Mike Kevin....
update those resume's...
Aren't you glad you asked...
(I just misspelled glad as gald... galled would work too....)

Welcome to Brokentime
Received my first Fine Woodworking this week (June 05 issue).
Hope they run the clamp deal again next year. Hate to get hooked on another Taunton publication (FHB costs enough). ;)
Sad thing is, between those two different deals I bought 8 clamps and couldn't tell you where more than 2-3 of them are. Sheeeeeeze, where do all the clamps go?!
