6×6 ipe post-lock miter joint sleeve or solid?
Hello all,
I am revisiting a job which I passed up some time back. Railings for a front entry way which is stone. –
I have looked into solid 6×6 ipe (28,00 per ft) ,which would be center bored 1 1/2 dia ,ab out 10 inches deep. I would need 6 48’pcs.
This would receive a 1 1/2 ” pipe or rebar ,dependinding on availability ,which would be installed in a coresponding 1 1/2 dia hole . I picked up a nice used core drill with some nice bits ,no percussion and clean as a whisel !
The question is ; will I be able to route a lock miter in 5/4 stock (several passes mind you) or will it be too hard on my router ?- 3 1/2 hp on jet table saw set-up .I do not own have a shaper in the shop. I have plenty of left over 5/4 decking which I could sq off and straight edge.
If I go the sleeve route ,what glue ? I am testing some gorilla as of this posting.
I would welcome any other thoughts anyone may have .
Thanks to all ,Chris

Are you talking 5/4 Ipe?
Wow to the milling. I have heard that there's not much harder than Ipe'. I have not worked with it AT ALL.
With no help from me, best of luck.
Yes the stock is 5/4 x 6 ,so idealy I end up with a 5" sq post
