I have a couple of new Pella casement windows that I need to trim out and would like to try something different. With regular top hung curtains I can’t ventilate the heat out of the room without opening them all the way up (not conducive to privacy). I’ve been mulling over some sort of track system hidden or inset into the side casing that would carry the curtain up from the bottom of the window where it either rolled up or folded onto a built in receiver box. The top of the curtain would hang on a rod that would lock in any raised position by friction so that you could have the curtain at 3/4 height to let in light-let out heat and still have privacy.
Have any of you done something similar or know of a commercially available system that is being marketed that would do the trick?

Doug,
I did an addition for which the home owners had some higher-end (Hunter-Douglas rings a bell) blinds installed. They were 2" wood slat blinds that you could lower from the top as well as raise like a standard blind. They were rather expensive but might save you some headaches.
*It's called a "top down, bottom up" option. Common these days in many lines, Hunter Douglas is one.I've got a Duette in my house, set in the window over the jacuzzi. Use it all the time, for us money well spent.Scroll about halfway down this page for a pic.Shop your best price in the back of any cheesey "Home" magazine by calling one of the "82% below retail" 1-800 window treatment stores for a price quote. Take that price to Home Depot and nail them on their additional 10%-off option.
*Thanks for the info. I figured there was a system out in the window blind business like I was thinking about. You saved me a bunch of time and the headaches of an extended search. Thanks again.
*Thanks for the info. I'll check into your suggestion before I go any farther. I appreciate your help.
