A Fond Farewell from SYSOP…

SYSOP | Posted in General Discussion on August 29, 2008 09:00am

Well folks after almost 8 years as being your SYSOP I will be handing in the Gavel next week. The reason being is that after many years here at Taunton I have decided to move onto something new.
I know I have not been hanging around here lately as I have been busy taking on other tasks, and because you are now and have been for a while in the most capable hands of the editorial team. But I did want to check in one last time and say good bye.
I have enjoyed immensely, all of the conversations that I have engaged in with you all and want to say thanks for all that you have contributed. I have met many of you in person and its always so interesting and fun to put a voice and a face to an online personality. This is truly one of the best online communities out there and you make that happen.
So with that I say farewell, good luck and Godspeed to all of you in whatever path you travel down.
Sincerely
Mark (AKA SYSOP)

You'll miss us like you'd miss a gallstone.

In science it often happens that scientists say, "You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken," and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. --Carl Sagan

DO take up a mystery BT identity when you decide to come back here as a regular BT user...and pop into the Tav and buy a round now and agin.

Good luck, Mark.  I clearly remember the first time we met at Mike Smith's house.  You came across as an earnest, good natured guy.  You probably are exactly that.

Funny thing is, you say you've been Sysop here for 8 years?  In all that time I don't remember running into you here, or noticing anything about you.  Like an umpire, or referee, I'd say that's the sure sign you've done a remarkable job.

Best wishes to you and yours.  You ever get out here to Western Washington, get in touch - always a spot on the porch, a cup of good coffee and more stories than you'll want to listen to waiting for you.
