Perhaps this is a little outside your area, but since you know so much about trees, I’m going to ask it:
What’s the best way to buy, plant, and care for an orange tree? We had one at the place we sold, and I miss the fresh oranges.

Have you tried posting at Over the Fence? I think if you wanted to know how to cut down the tree and turn it into lumber, Bon would be a great source, but othewise...

I grow plenty of trees....but have never even seen an orange tree close up.
I could run through a list of generalities, but some may be wrong for tropocal trees and you'd be better served by asking your local Ag Extension Agent at your county seat.

I once knew a guy that frequently included citrus in his brown bag lunch. He kept lots of small pots around as well as plenty of potting soil.
After lunch he planted the seeds. His office was full of orange "trees" and grapefruit "trees". Of course, they were all rather small and there was no chance of ever seeing fruit (Indiana), but...
