Does anybody know if this is acceptable.
i’m installing a half bath in a basement and the old plumbing book i have says the vent needs to go all the way through the roof, or connect to a vent line above.
i was going to put an aav on the sink drain but that still leaves the toilet.
while i think i can cut out the drywall of the backside of the first floor bathroom above and tie in the vent line their i was just wondering if i could save myself the hassle of all that work.
code here from what i can understand only states that one vent must penetrate the roof. i can’t find out if an aav is ok on a 3″ toilet drain line.
thanks

An Air Admittance Vent will work fine, but check your local codes and buy one that is code approved. The cheap black ones are not!
The vent must be accessible and not be enclosed so that air can not get to it. In the past, I have run them up near the ceiling, cut a hole in the wall and put a small register grille over it.
