I had a SpacePak hi velocity system installed last August and it worked fine, except that it seemed to cycle on and off rapidly. It worked fine earlier this month. I had it turned off the last week or so, but put it on last night due to incoming heatwave. By noon today, the coil was completely frozen up. I read an old post indicating this is caused by low refrigerant, but I wonder given that it’s basically brand new. Any other causes? Also, the unit is eqipped with aa anti-frost switch that is supposed to turn off the compressor, but it didn’t. Plus, the wiring diagram shows an anti fost bipass which actually can bypass the anti frost switch, although the very sparse literature with the unit doesn’t mention it or explain how it works or why its there. One way or the other, the anti frost protection didn’t work. Anyone know anything about this? Of course the very large company that installed the system doesn’t provide weekend service(it’s 98 degrees as I type this).

Low refrigerant is one of the possibilities.
The other is restricted air flow from a dirty filter or blocked return air duct. A third and fourth are a dirty A coil and a suction line restriction. The last can be caused by something kinking the suction line or a clogged filter/dryer in the line.
Can't tell you anything about the defrost switch without seeing the schematics. I am unfamiliar with them except in my limited knowedge of heat pumps systems.

Thanks for the quick response. It's definitely not an airflow problem caused by a dirty filter or coil. It's brand new and everything is clean as a whistle. What's the "suction line"?
