i am building an inside room under our 12’x 49′ covered porch and am looking for suggestions on how to keep water from seeping through the mahogany floorboards into the room below. I think that 2×6 rafters will suffice- the side facing the room will have drywall or beadboard finish, the other side will have what? the ceiling is 8′ high if built flat, but if we drop it just enough for drainage, how does someone fit in there to do anything? pls advise. love this column!

Theres a several options to choose from such as,
Enclose the upper porch with walls and windows, or, extend the rafters out and create a 2ft overhang on all 3 sides then add gutters,or, you could pitch the floor on the upper porch strip up the mahogany (carefully if you want to reuse it) lay down 3/4 plywood for your new deck and cover it with rubber making sure you overlap the edges properly so water can make its way into the gutters. Then place 2x4 sleepers across the rubber membrane and maybe put some dabs of adhesive under them to keep them at 16`` centers then relay the mahogany.
