I’m going to be adding 16-20 inches of blow-in cellulose to an older home with several older recessed lights. I’m sure they are not I.C. rated. THey are about 14inches square and 13-12 tall with a slew of holes, slots and openings that the air just flies through. My question and concern is how I could enclose these so I could Insulate around and over them. I was thinking of Boxing them with plywood, ductboard, stryofoam,or cement backer. I”m wondering how to proceed with regards to possible heat build-up and any safety issues? Replacing them isn’t much of an option due to there square size. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd think sheet metal, but I'd also rethink replacement. No matter what you do, the cells is gonna be mostly breached and heat and cold are still gonna pour thru the fixtures.
