Does anyone know of any good reference material pertaining to addition designs? My main concerns are roof designs and that they compliment one another. (I’ve seen too many that don’t) Thanks

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

It seems like I remember an article by Sarah Suzanka a couple issues ago in the now defunct "Inspired House" magazine. They may have it in their archives under House Chat forum (above, three over from Breaktime).
Thanks for reply I was looking for a book, maybe. I checked out the house chat though and I feel like I might have missed out on something. I had never heard of it before.
As far as books, not to promote Taunton, but they do have good stuff, check out their books--especially anything written by Susanka, though there are others too. Susanka often stresses building small but with nice features.
Thanks again Danno. I just ordered 2--"Additions" and "by pros for pros building addtions". Both from Taunton. I hope they're what I want. Although the building part isn't the problem its design. I love the the clients that say, "we want a master bedroom and a family room". When I question them about roof lines ect they say "we want the door to go over here." Yea, that helps! Typically they're easy but I looked at one today thats a two story addition on a chalet. But not off the gable end that would be to easy (actually it doesn't work there anyway) but off the roof side. Not to hard I know you're thinking... but (theres always a but) the second floor is about 2/3 smaller then the first floor (theres an exsisting loft involved that will stay) I'm thinking reverse "A" off the chalet roof but the first floor roof...well I dunno... shed roof? (yuck) another reverse (yuck, yuck) so I'm hoping for ideas more then anything.
Not to hard I know you're thinking...
No, I never think anything about remodeling or building an addition will be easy! I know better from experience. Glad you are planning ahead instead of just plunging in, hoping something will come to you!
Well, I kinda like to have a plan instead of just winging it I've found it usually turns out better:) We're finishing a basement at the moment and I went upstairs to use the facilities and I couldn't help but notice the door trim that had to be ripped down because the framer didn't bother to think ahead(1/2" sheetrock) Stuff like that really irks me. Its not necessary if someone just took alittle time.
The best book that I have come across for your situation is titled: ARCHITECTURAL PLANS FOR ADDING ON OR REMODELING...written by Jerold L. Axelrod. The ISBN for this book is: 0-8306-3929-2.
My copy of this book is paper-back and sold for $19.95.
There are over 300 pages in this book...each page depicting an artist sketch of a proposed additon to an existing structure; complete with recommended roof designs for each particular type of addition.
To me, a remodeler, this book is invaluable.

Unfreakin'believable! I just ordered that very same book from amazon last night. Wow I actually did something right. Thanks for the input. By the way, I ordered some books from Taunton and paid to have it ship 2nd day...6 days ago! Anybody have similar problems??(probably just me:))
