Hello All, I will be breaking ground on a 24’X 16’addition tomorrow. The roof has been added on to several times incorrectly. My goal is to eliminate the cricket caused by the breezeway addition. Initial thoughts are to build walls @ 9′ frame the new roof just below the existing gable, and insulate on top of the decking with styrofoam similar to a log home to gain height and eliminate the cricket. I have more photos available if necessary. Any advice or info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what is incorrect here except that the flashing detail at the right side of gable is a bit sloppy and crude looking. Is that wjhat you are calling acricket?
The addition you are making - where is it going? Towards the camera from the gable end in front of the house? About where that deck is?

Same questions I had. Might help if we knew what the existing wall height is, to know if 9' is less or more.
I was thinking that the cross-over was the "cricket" until I looked at it again (and moving it up gets it into the garage roof).
Makes me wonder if it might not be easier to move the addition wall to the right (in the photo) and just "spring" off the existing roof, which would make that garage connection nicer (even if matching an existing roof can be a major pain).Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
hilllbilly,
What did you decide to do to handle it?
However, if one designs to construct a dwelling-house, it behooves him to exercise a little Yankee shrewdness, lest after all he find himself in a workhouse, a labyrinth without a clue, a museum, an almshouse, a prison, or a splendid mausoleum instead.

we had to leave the existing gable as is and form a valley with the addition. Not what I would have chosen but time and money tend to dictate the outcome more often than not. Thanks for your response.
