First the disclaimers: I don't make this product, nor does anybody I personally know make it. It is just an idea that I had, and it may exist.
I am always uneasy watching folks walk on the joists putting down a bead of adhesive. It would be a lot easier if they could stand on a firm surface and reach to the joists.
I have dealt with pumping thick adhesive mixtures, and they use a pneumatic-driven pump, like that seen in commercial garages for pumping grease. It seems to me that you could use the same pump on a job site. The adhesive would come in a 5-gallon bucket, and the pump with the swash plate put on top. A hose, about the size of an air hose would come out to a wand with a trigger at the end. If the want were about 8 feet long, the adhesive could be applied without having to move around the joist.
Advantages: Faster application and safer working conditions. The pump would use the complete bucket contents.
Disadvantage: Lugging around a 5-gallon bucket and pump. Costs are high.
Now, the costs:
You probably pay about $5 for a 1/4 gallon tube, or about $100 for 5 gallons. In a pail, the adhesive would cost about $40. This is a savings of about $3/tube.
The pump would cost about $2500, based on the Grainger catalog. So, you would have to use about 800 tubes of adhesive before you saved anything.
*You would have a hard time getting any production framers to spend more than 7 bucks on a tool to dispense glue. There is a type of glue gun that extends the reach by two foot or so, it costs about 30 bucks. I never had a problem stepping one foot on the exposed joist and reaching out to four foot.
*I never pay more than $3.00 for a good adhesive.
*Only 2500 to get staarted Sign me up.No I think I'll just reeach out there like Tommy. If the situation calls for it we will lay a row of sheets upside down on the joists to walk on while gluing.jim
