Hello all,
I’m a long-time denizen of Knots, but I wandered over here to post a problem that’s more up your alley. Maybe someone can help…
My company has traditionally been a cabinet shop, but recently we’ve expanded into developing and making wooden parts for a modular building system. The pilot factory is set up in Israel, but the eventual location will be in Angola. (It’s been an interesting story, but a bit irrelevant to my question right now.) We’ve already produced and shipped to Africa all the parts for 2 large model houses. All the visible woodwork – beams, windows, decking, etc – is made of Sapele. All the hidden framing – studs, joists, etc – is Pine.
I’ve just become aware that the termite problem in this region of Africa is OUTRAGEOUS. Anybody know what effective preventive measures are possible?
thanks,
David Ring

You looked at indigenous building in your proposed areas? Wood isn't very applicable everywhere. Sterilizing the building site isn't an attractive option.
Nice website. A hundred years ago I looked into furniture-making there. Probably should have been planting. Well, I did, but that was an immense citrus grove. The hardwoods were only grown for the fruit.
No help for you, but you got a "bump".
