My shop is in a building with several other shops and the walls don’t go all the way to the ceiling. My neighbor frequently uses a large air compressor that is very loud and rattles the walls. Sometimes if I’m trying to make phone calls to clients or just think through a plan, the noise and vibration makes it very difficult. I want to bring it up with him, but I want to be able to offer a solution that doesn’t require a lot of work. Is it safe to simply build a foam-lined box around it and put something below it to help isolate the vibration? Or is there a better way to do this?

A box will work, just make sure you have an opening for the intake air. You could also add rubber pads under the feet to help with the rattling walls.
