What type of air hoses do you use with your nail guns?
Rubber, PVC, reinforced ………. ?
Diameter and length?
Which of the Quick Disconnects do you use?
Currently I use 1/4″ rubber 50′. I am getting a T fitting for my compressor (Emglo Twin Tank Wheel Barrow 15 yrs old) with the Type A QDs. and will need to buy another hose, prob 2 hoses.
The reinforced hose is available in blues or red, is twice the cost of the rubber and is made by Cobra.
Any reviewers out there?

get a 50' flexeel hose..it's like a string compared to any other.
I use milton fittings..never gave it much thought.

It annoys the heck out of me that there are so many different kinds of fittings. Sure wish they were standardized. How do they get deer to cross at those yellow road signs?
They are....

Maybe where you are they're standardized.
Around here there are 3 or 4 kinds. And every brand is labelled differently.Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.
Kinds as in brands or kind as in type as in 1/4S or 3/8L....

I'm not talking either sizes OR brands - I mean styles.
For instance - I go to the local farm store. They stock Milton stuff. But they stock Milton type "M" (What I use) as well as 2 other types.
But If I go to NAPA, their store brand doesn't match up with Milton type "M". Their type "D" matches Milton's type "M". (I think - I can never remember for sure)
But if I go to the hardware store, they have a different brand. And they use an entirely different letter to designate the type.
Saem with the local lumberyard - They have a 4th brand with another completely different set of letter designations.
The thing that really pisses me off is that they don't offer any help. If I read the back of the card at the NAPA store for a coupler, it says it matches Milton part #3264-4095. It doesn't say it matches type "M", or whatever. Makes it hard to get the one you need.
Dad uses a different type than I do, and my Uncle uses the 3rd kind. Makes it a real pain to borrow tools and such.
So that's what I meant when I said I wished it was standardized. I wish there was only one TYPE of air coupling.Bumpersticker: So Many Pedestrians - So Little Time

Maybe your Dad and Uncle use a different type than you do for a reason... :)Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. I use industrial standard. NAPA has auto. Hardware store might have metric...
Sortta like SAE, USS and metric. Within each group they are standard.
Make adaptors. A female to fit yours and a male to fit yur dad's and uncle's styles.... Pick one and stay with it for yurself..
I use the 3/8L.... Keeps the free loaders in check...
Milton also makes a line of interchangable styles....

dat's the ticket..I got the interchangeable ends..cuz my auto tools didn't fit the hoses..so I replaced the female couplings..thanks fer reminding me..

Adapters, heck.
When I borrow Dad's tools, I'd need a male of one type connected to a female of the other. But take something of mine out to the farm, and I'd need the opposite.
Not to mention that I'd need to keep straight which adapter is for which type, as well as be able to FIND the dumb things when I needed one.
I'd rather change the couplings on the tools.
And bitch about it on internet message boards. (-:Bumpersticker: Cleverly Disguised As A Responsible Adult

I just bought myself a new length of hose. The local building center had it. This stuff is absolutly incredible. It's not tacky so the hose stays clean. It's very light weight. It's INCREDIBLY flexible! I've never handled a hose that was nearly as flexible. I just wish that I could remember the name. If you want, I could call the supplier and get the manufacturer.
Please.
Is it red or blue, yet transperant with something woven into the hose wall?

Or orange... It can only be Flex-eel....

I bought a blue PUR hose from Amazon and a yellow Flex-eel for a fastener supplier. The PUR hose is nice but I would recommend the flex-eel brand. It is more smaller in diameter, more flexible and the fittings are nicer.
Jon Blakemore
It sounds like the flex-eel stuff. Yes, the hose is transparent. I highly recommend it. Very, very nice stuff.
I've got flex-eel, it's great, especially up on scaffolding. But they named it wrong. It oughta be flex-python, cause I just gotta walk within 6' of one and it's coiled around an ankle. Dang stuff is so light, the harder I try to kick it off, the tighter it wraps FDLMAO! Don't worry, we can fix that later!
You are right snort, no matter how hard I try to unwind it so it stays flat, I marvel as it curls right up the minute I turn around. I like the no mar feature when using it in a finished house, and of course the wt. But I would be tempted to use the usual senco hose if up on a roof. Tempted hell, I don't think I'd even get the eel outta the truck.
Do any of you use it roofing? Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

I have been..it's not too bad. Except where it gets caught on a ladder or a plank or a anything..and unknoting it has been no joy. Not as ecstatic as I was when I first got it..even thought the same thing ..use my old hose for this roof..

dieselpig told me about a guy selling it on e-bay by the coil, 500' for 2-250, can't remember exactly. Found out the guy is a local seller up by him so he picked it up local.

CAG,
???, Don't understand. What's the price per foot?
Jon
sorry have a blond (for lack of a better word) day.
500' for about 230 bucks., so about 50 cents a foot.
marathon tool I believe in the Boston area, you want specifics if you're interested I'll e-mail brian and find out
I picked up a coiled hose the other day - 68 CDN for a 50' 1/4" flex. Trouble is, it gets in the way more than the flat hoses, but sure stores nice.Quality repairs for your home.

"so about 50 cents a foot."
CAG,
That place Sphere recommended wound up costing me $55.50/100' total including shipping. That's WAY better than the Amazon.com price of $56.93 PLUS $9.99 shipping for a 50 footer.
Can't wait to get, if it's as good as everybody says. I figure I'll cut it down to ~60', use the rest for air tool whips.
Jon
Yup..on both fronts..best price on the stuff I found was tools-plus and it is great for the tails whips ya need..you'll love it. Ya only got the two ends tho'..and strain reliefs..did ya find those too?

Sphere,
I figure when I get it, I'll decide what the best approach is. I really only got it to make whips out of, but the price for 100' wasn't that much more than 50'. I'll see how I like it.
Just got called back to work a hour ago, 1/3 staff on vacation, and a RUSH job. $hit. We do have a tool for crimping ends on air hoses though, so that I'll come in handy

Jon or Sphere,
Can you terminate the ends of the hose without a shop full of patternmaking tools?
Jon Blakemore
Jon,
I don't see why not. Just not as pretty. ie you could use a hose clamp and barbed fitting, but it is more likely to snag on something as you pull it. There may be a neat product on the market for that purpose, never looked into it.
Jon
easy as pie..got a PEX crimper? Got hog rings? crimp away maestro..use a bushing material if it's too small to crimp up tite..strips of edpm, or leather.
