Hello All,
I’m looking for any alarm gurus out there. I’m finishing up the alarm on my house…..long story. Anyway, all the door sensors are on but I need to add 1 motion sensor and 3 glass breaks….all hardwired. I’m looking for recommendations. Right now I am considering DSC AC100 glass breaks and a DSC Bravo 6 motion.
Thanks,
John

We just finished building and did our own security system: 7 glassbreak detectors, numerous IR motion detectors, 5 keypads, on and on. Can't imagine what it would have cost to have a pro install the system. I used Ademco hardware, all bought on eBay at substantial discount. On the sensor end of things, since everything is powered by 12V DC and is basically a set of contacts to signal the motherboard, anybodies sensors are pretty much compatible with any system. The glassbreak detectors that I am using are Ademco's hardwired Intellisense FG1025, FG1615, and FG1625 units (rated for 15 or 25 feet and work with insulated glass).
BTW, I used to drive past your place every day when I lived in Danville. Now we live in Plainfield.
Thanks for the info. I've been looking on ebay. Most of the glass breaks are wireless and there are a ton of motions on there. I was originally looking for Ademco but recognize DSC as a decent brand. Our current alarm guy installs Ademco. My house has Caddx (Ge Logistics). I asked current alarm guy to finish the system and he wants to replace the whole thing. I'll finish it!
I'd say that living in Plainfield or Danville you can't go wrong. I live on the east side of Avon and enjoy the location.John

Alarms is my bag and yes the DSC stuff is good. What you are considering is fine. Of course motion sensors and acoustical glass breaks are subject to false alarms but the technology of the time is good so you should have little problems. Follow the directions closely, as installation in an improper location or manner is a major cause of false alarms. There is plenty of info on the web about the proper installation and wiring practices.
Try this for a source instead of Ebay. They even have tech support. http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezStore123/DTProductList.asp?p=2_1_1_1_0_0_235
good luck
Just saw your post. I bought the DSC stuff and installed it. No problems. I even found an online forum to tell me how to program my alarm panel.John

i know you know alarm stuff.... so... if this exists i won't invent it... but if it doesn't...
this post is copy write protected... or you can just send me a box of money for my idea :)
with the huge rash of them steal'n ac units.... i want to invent/build an alarm sensor that screws to the charge valve of an ac unit that would trigger one alarm zone of your already installed alarm system when pressure was lost from the system.... ie when they cut the copper... loss of refrigerant triggers a pressure switch and sets off the alarm... sounds too simple to not already be invented... but? do you know...? google search from me found nothing...
thanks...

I haven't heard of anything like that. Check with commercial heating and air guys. I'm sure they have some sort of system like that to let them know when a unit is down. Or going down. Then it's just a matter of figuring out how to get it hooked to an alarm panel. I don't think that would be too bad.
Did you ever get your cameras up?

i talked to my main HVAC guy... he said lots of simple low pressure switches around for several different reasons... my design... /drawing... is for a simple to install... low pressure side (i think) would screw onto the test valve (where your gages go)... and still have another valve so you would not remove it when servicing a unit... and just a normally open or N/C pressure switch... simple so the alarm guy could just screw it on and hook up/run his 2 wires... to the panel... might even need to be hooked to a panic since they steal em around here when people are in the building working and the alarm might be off...
man i got a cheap set (4) of wired color cameras off line... with a PC card... they monitor and record thru the pc.... at set times ... pretty neat deal... they were less than $200 with 50ft power/rg cables... at least now i can watch em steal'n
thanks dude

The plan sounds simple enough. It would just be a matter of getting the switch to show resistance. Getting it to show normally open or closed is no big deal. I'll have to ask our security Guru. He's pretty sharp at stuff like that.
You for sure want it set to instant notification like a hold up button.
Glad you got a decent camera system. Does your pc card enable you to use your computer like a DVR?

There are video systems that detect motion and then will record for a short period of time.Don't know if any of them give notification or not.But I saw one that you could connect it to the internet and see what it had recorded..

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
On the news tonight a local store "lost" a number of 500 lb units off their roof last night. Said that it took a crane to set them.So they don't know now they got them off..

I worked with our Guru yesterday. At lunch I asked him about what you wanted. He said if you can get a sensor made for the unit that trips anything it can work. If you can get one that just lights a light that's better.
He also suggested using a device that they use for alarming ladders and such. It wraps around the device like a cable for tying a bicycle up. wrap it in a knot around whatever you can so that it has to be cut. When they cut it or unhook it then it will trip the alarm.
Clear as mud? If you want I'll Email you my phone number. I was telling him what you had going on and about your other properties. "He said tell him we're slow and we don't mind travelling." :) I think he just wants BBQ. LOL

i did some hunting in my hvac books... there are some very simple/cheap low pressure sensors for hvac systems... like you might have to trigger an alarm in a clean room or a computer room or lab.... or even walk in coolers...
shouldn't be rocket science to fit em to a charging Tee and have them trigger you regular alarm...
sure i won't do anything with the idea... but... then again i might...
oh dude... memphis in may largest BBQ cookoff in the world in happen'n as we speak
wish you were here

Yea anything that triggers something can be adapted to an alarm panel. You may have to hook a relay to it is about all.
Why do you have to wait until the week it happens to announce the BBQ cook off? A little more notice next time.

I had an attempted theft on a commercial building. Somebody must have spooked them. Anyway they jacked the coil and I had to replace it anyway. Thieves should be shot.John
