Am i missing something in the forum layout
This may be a really obvious oversight on my part but I am unable to find a search function for the forum.

Right above your question is the line "GoogleTM Custom Search ..... Search".
At least that's what I see using Mozilla Firefox.
Hopefully this is an image.
I have the exact same problem. I dont see the search box shown in your screenshot. I used to see it but have not in the last month or two...
Steve
I see the search box using safari.
what browser are you using?
Google Chrome
I see it in Safari. I could see it in Firefox before that quit working. I can't see in in Chrome, but I think I've got ads blocked on that, so that may have something to do with it.
I have Flashblock running on my Mozilla install, and I have no trouble with the search bar.
Internet Exploder displays a truncated version of the bar, and it doesn't do anything when you press "Search". But then I never use Exploder except for "odd" pages.
I don't have any other browsers installed at present.
Mike
Too bad the frik'n. email notification doesn't work, he probably doesn't know we're responding.
Of course, you don't really need the built-in search function. Open a Google screen, type in your query, and add "site:forums.finehomebuilding.com" (without the quotes). That's (almost) exactly what the "Search" function does under the covers.
adding "site:forums.finehomebuilding.com" to Google search
I had also searched in vain for a forum search button. Your solution to add "site:forums.finehomebuilding.com" to a Google search works great. Thank you for taking the time to post this workaround.
I am using Chrome.

I had too many things blocked to see it myself, adblock plus and no script needed a couple changes. I just use google site search if I am searching for anything here, but that's pretty rare anymore.
Hey guys!
You are right, no email notifications. Using chrome so no google search showing up. I used to love this forum but it does not work nearly as good as it did years ago. The help found here is definately unmatched. wish it worked a little less clumsy.
