I will be building my first home from the cap up this spring, mostly by myself. My biggest concern is getting the beam in place. More than likely I won’t be able to get much help, maybe one or two more guys. Any advice on getting this accomplished would be appreciatted. The beam is going to be 50 feet long, 4-2X12.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Build it in place.
*Doi it the safe way.. hire a crane to make the pick. you descendants may thank you.
*second the build in placehow deep is the crawler, or is it basement below?I might plumb and line my posts, nail a gusset onto a parallel face of the posts, and cut and fit the joist one at a time. Run one joist section complete, then start from the center of the floor and work out to the ends, staggering the breaks of the first run to the centera of the second run. Third run goes back to the first layout. Suck the joist tight together, top and bottom, with hand drives. Then nail off on your pattern with the gun. Guns don't drive boards together, hence the hand drives. I would expect to put two sinkers, one top and one bottom, every six feet or so. Add as needed to get the boards tight together on the top and bottom, prior to nailing off. If you can do this standing in the crawler, great. If you have to work off of ladders, then watch out for the tendency to lean out to get a few more nails in before moving the ladder. Many a bone has been broken from leaning out on step ladders.Good luck
