Amazon has been holding my new framing nailer hostage, and they are keeping the location hidden. My mistake…..which I now know…..and will NEVER make again……was ordering over the internet….and thinking Tool Crib would somehow be involved……seeing as how I went to the amazon/tool crib website!
Got news for ya……olny amazon gets involved in the web purchases…..and even though I ordered this think on the 8th…..they STILL don’t have a tracking number……..so I’m wondering how the a-hole on Fri though it would get to me on Sat….and the A-Hole on Sun guarenteed it would be here when I got home from work! I hate being lied to….but maybe they knew if they told the truth I’d have canceled the missing in America order and paid more locally to have it for the job I need it on.
Or…..better yet….as I just found out by calling Tool Crib direct……I’d have ordered it from the catalog 800 number…..like I have always done(till now) and when it doesn’t show as expected…..make a phone call and they can tell me when it left THEIR warehouse and which truck it’s on now……..as opposed to…..”OH, the shipping dept’s are busy…it’ll take a few days to request a tracking number”. They even had the wrong warehouse at first.
A recap…….AMAZON SUCKS…….then they lie about it! Tool Crib can still offer the same good service….just not thru the web site. And, oh yeah…..AMAZON SUCKS!
Guess I learned something new today! Jeff

Thanks, Jeff...I was on the verge of ordering a pneu stapler. I had pretty crappy service at Christmas time, just thought it was the holidays since that was the only time i used them, but i ordered on the 12th of December and they missed Christmas by a mile. And it was weird--the only thing they had in stock at the time was a package of photo paper for the inkjet, which came in its own box and cost more to mail than the paper itself. I'll go direct to The Crib.
*Glad to save someone the hassle. The girl at the Tool Crib customer service number said they get this complaint all the time. Sounded like Tool Crib wanted the seperation made know better....but Amazon wanted it all to seem like one big happy company......like the web site would have the same service that Tool Crib had been offering the whole time. If Tool Crib hadn't been such a great company to order from in the past, I'd just forget both names......but as long as I can keep Amazon out of the loop......by going thru the Tool Crib catalog 800 number.....I'll stick with them. Oh yeah.....AMAZON SUCKS! Jeff
*So did ya cancel tha sucka and order direct? Or are you still hoping for a miracle?
*Jeff you saved me some pain. I havent ordered anything over the net I usually go direct but I was gonna try thanks for the info.
*Jeff, I'm afraid that I will have to disagree with you. I love using the net to buy things. I'm sure that your impression of Amazon is well founded, but I wouldn't make that blanket statement about everyone. On the web, I can search for a tool, pick the best price out of usually more than a dozen different retailers, and the _ _ _ tool is sitting on my doorstep in two days. Hopefully. When it works out, life couldn't be better. When it doesn't, I agree with you that it seems like some of the most incompetent people are involved with e-commerce. It's kinda like buying something off the rack at big orange or trying to order something that is not in stock. Difference like night and day. Hope you get to try out your new nailer soon, and having used one a good bit, I know you will like it.Jon
*b WBA At Your ServiceJeff, Don't you live in a big city like Pittsburgh or somewhere that has local suppliers that sell these things ? Ours have prices that are fairly competitive with those mail order stores and plus I can look the repair guy right in the eye. (Without shame.)
*Right Tim,...and most of them (including Home Depot) will meet or beat mail order prices, so why bother?Jerry
*Wow... I thought Amazon was aaaaaalright... I just make sure I ONLY order items that are IN STOCK, and get them shipped the quickest way possible.. I generally only buy things this way that I can't find anywhere else, or if no one else has the item in stock.. I swear Amazon's got every book ever printed, and I can get them in under a week. If you've cancelled your order, I'd only buy a Paslode gun from a Paslode rep/salesman... It's good to have these "inside guys" on your side if you need a loaner gun while yours is getting fixed, and it's a fact they can give you the best deals... Never, and I mean never, pay suggested retail for a Paslode gun... They make a schwack of cash on the nails, not the guns.
*Jez, I have had great service from them. They have a price on things so low that I can't buy it cheaper, things get here right away and exactly what I ordered. Since I live very close to a Home Depot, I figured that they would be as cheap or cheaper, but not so, Nail prices are lower, a lot of the better tools are cheaper and I can order them on-line at three in the morning. They may not be the answer for you and I wouldn't presume to tell you otherwise, but thanks for the heads-up.
*I agree with Mike - I've ordered a few large purchases from Amazon and have had no problem at all (generally these are items which I can't buy from the local hardware store w/o having to special order and pay 20% more than HD or AMZN.)I have purchased new tools and a few refurbished, and have been content with the service, delivery and ease of ordering (usually can get free shipping and have better prices than HD.)As Mike stated, I'd never order from them anything backordered or not in stock - that's asking for trouble and their future 'in stock' dates are usually a few months ahead of reality (I realize this may not be 100% their fault - but they should not nearly guarantee the availability of an item in 4 weeks if they have no idea when the item will really be in.) That's my only gripe about them.Who knows - by the end of next year, AMZN may even be profitable.
*My son gave me a electronic gift certificate to Amazon. I lost the certificate number and Amazon would not help locate. When I finally found the certificate number it was four days past the expiration of the gift certificate. Amazon e-mailed back "too bad-you're too late-can't redeem". I buy online, but not at Amazon. They lost my business and everytime their stock drops I realize it is more dissatisfied customers flocking to other e-tailers.
*MikeIf this was a true gift certificate, ie one that the paid money for, and not store promotion then there is no "expiration". That is not the stores money, but yours. They have to turn it over to the state unclaimed property division. To many states AG have won this one. In a slightly different Kansas just set with the NCAA over ticket sales where they did not have the address to return payments.Work your way up the chain and ask them when it was turned over to the state and which state so that you can claim your money.
*Yeah, Jeff. That blows. If you're interested, there's a hardware store in the south hills (Daniel's) that carries everything (from nailers to 6 horse compressors) in stock and cheaper than anyone on the internet. Their ph. # is 412-665-0887. They are located at 5724 Curry Road in South Park. It's not easy to find, but well worth the trip. I have no connection to them other than I'm the 4th generation of my family to shop there.Mike
*Next time you want to order tools online, try Coastal Tools (www.coastaltool.com). Better prices than Tool Crib and great service.
*Miracles do happen. But....piss poor service continues! The gun arrived today......about the same time they said it was in transit and would be tomorrow or the next day. Thinking I'm not gonna trust a shipping company that doesn't know where it's packages are! The Tool Crib price was below local, and with no tax or shipping. And....I got a free really cool cat's paw and a nice 25' tape....the back up now has a back up. I never said not to but over the net....just not from amazon, when the Tool Crib phones work very well. Like I said....that who I thought I was dealing with in the first place. So....everything arrived....no harm done.....aside from un-needed aggravation from a clueless company. On Fri...had they said today would be the due date.....I'd have been fine. The fact they had no idea, then lied twice, is what pissed me off. Tool Crib seems to understand we need these things to make a living......I'll stick with them. Jeff
*I buy all my nail guns from my fastener specialist. That way, if they break down he comes to my job with a loner or fixes it on the spot. Brings my nails too. And hoses, fittings, compressors, etc. He even has a name, and when I call his cell phone, he answers.Plus he steers me away from the stuff thats brought in the most for service. He's bringing me and impulse gun, same price as at depot, plus free fuel cells right to the job tommorrow. And he's bringing me nails, extra batteries, chargers, etc. Heck he might even bring cold drinks. Guaranteed delivery. I'm not even in a big city like pittsburgh, don't you guys have this type of service? Saves me alot of aggravation.
*I used to buy a lot of tools from the Tool Crib, until I realized my local lumberyard could beat their prices and get the stuff faster. Now, I order just about everything through them. I like to support local business and real people. I also realized that Amazon/Tool Crib prices are unrealistically close to suggested retail prices. I just bought a Stabila tripod for my Robolaser, Tool Crib price: $169.99, my lumberyard's price: $150.00 flat. Now, the web is neat if one wants to see tool pictures at 3:00 AM!fv
*I may as well add my $.02. I haven't bought tools from Amazon but I've bought a lot of other stuff, and my wife has bought much more. We've never had any trouble at all. I generally buy things that are in stock and, as others have pointed out, they've been delivered promptly (usually sooner than their estimate). I've bought some things that have been out of stock that I couldn't find anywhere else and they were delivered within their estimated dates as well.As far as prices are concerned, you have to shop around Amazon, other sites, and local stores if you want to find the best prices. That's no differnet than letting your fingers do the walking in the old days. Sometimes Amazon has great prices but it does vary by product.Buying over the internet is a trmendously convenient way to shop but it's just another option. Companies like Amazon are trying to work the bugs out of the system and we should try to help them so that we all benefit in the long run. There are bound to be a few bumps in the road along the way and we shouldn't fly off the handle after one bad experience. Now if we were talking about consistently bad performance like Home Depot... ;-)
*Tom....up till now....I've worked as a one man remodeling band. I used to go months between breaking out the framing gun. Trim nailer got more use.....but even that was never an every day thing. Your guy would said....Jeff Who...and laughed at my two boxes of nails every three months! Jeff
*If a company that handles 100% of it sales thru package shipping doesn't know or care to know where even one package is.....that's reason enough for me! Like I said.......Tool Crib operates the same.....except they actually know where the shipped stuff is at any given moment. Jeff
*Jeff,I beg to differ. My Paslode rep would bend over backwards for you... Especially if that brad nailer is Paslode... If Paslode only catered to large contractors they'd only make 1/2 the money (or less)..
*Sounds fishy to me. Didn't you ship via Fedex or UPS? If so, you can track that online..
*Jeff,If you are in the trades, these guys will service you. I'm not that big either. I might buy 5-10k from him this year, but that wasn't always the case. They are always looking for long term repeat customers and they are generally in the area selling to someone else. Buy your next gun from a fastener supplier, that will start them coming.I you're a carpenter every day, how can you only use a few boxes of nails a year? Shoot man, maybe your hand nailing too much. Course those paslode guns can't keep up to the Hitachi.
*only if you have a tracking number......which one I had.....for the single item in a three item order.....that was supposed to be shipped as a single order.....which THEY didn't figure out was shipped seperately till I recieved the single item.....which had the only tracking number assigned! When I called to get the other tracking number/numbers for the missing items......they simply said when the warehouse gets busy....sometimes they send stuff out without a tracking number! And.......to see if an inhouse tracking number had been assigned......get this....I guess phones and/or the computers can't be linked together.......she lady would have to write a letter requesting the number, and if no number existed, to create one(which I still don't know how that would track an item after it left) and she'd email me after she got a letter back! Tracking number works on paper....and is what I first went in search of......only to find Amazon doesn't quite grasp the concept. Tool Crib yes......amazon no. So......once again....with feeling.....AMAZON SUCKS! Anyone else can feel free to use them......I'm not gonna make that mistake again. Jeff
*Weird timing Jeff. I was just gonna post how incredibly great Amazon.com was because I got this package today, opened it and danged if it wasn't a brand new PASLODE! Shoots like crazy, light as a feather, and the price, well let me tell you what, I don't remember paying a bloody cent for it!!!!Best tool outfit I've ever seen.
*FWIW, a place I've used a lot and had good luck with is Bottom Line Tools... you can order via phone or web, I believe they still have free shipping for $75+ orders, prices typically meet or beat Amazon, and I get my stuff usually in 2-3 days. They're still my first preference... and no, I have no ownership interests in the place...
*Bill Hartman. This was a true gift certificate. My son in California sent it to me. He paid Amazon by credit card. I live in Oregon. Amazon ships from Washington. I checked and found they are incorporated in Delaware. Where should I start to track down the money owed.
*Mike, here's the easy way to get your money: write the credit card company and send the appropriate documentation. They'll take the charge off your son's card.I'm a merchant who takes cards, and the customer is king. The card company doesn't even contact the merchant before removing a charge at the customer's request, at least not in my experience or in the experience of other artisans i know who've been bilked by shysters. The only problem you may encounter is the time elapsed, but taking it to the card company means you have a huge company with a vested interest in keeping you happy with their service who will represent you against Amazon.
*MikeThere corporate headquarters are in Washington. I would write a letter to;Jeff BezosP.O. Box 81226Seattle, Washington 98108-1226And ask him if they can track it down or if it has been turned over the state unclaimed property division and if so when so that you can make a claim to the state.I suspect that will get a response and if it doesn't then I would check with the Washington AG office.
*Splintergroupie and Bill,Thanks for the advice. I will follow through. (I didn't mean to hijack the thread with my problem but I appreciate the responses.)
