I had a thought about basement vapor barrier and wanted to get some other opinions.
Will be building a house with a finished basement. Plan on putting a 6 mil vapor barrier between the cement wall and basement framing.
Here’s the question…Since there will be a vapor barrier under the slab extending up against the wall as a capillary break, is the any reason not to install the wall vapor barrier prior to pouring the slab and run it down over the footing as the capillary break, then seal it to the underslab poly? My concrete guy will be using Formadrain, so it seems to me that any moisture that gets throught the wall would run down to the interior Formadrain and on to the sump.
Where is the flaw in my thinking, because I’m sure one exists.
Thanks

From my understanding the vapor barrier belongs on the outside of the concrete wall in the form of water proofing of some sort. Placing the moisture barrier behind the finish wall will only trap any moisture that enters the space and be a source for mold growth.
