Building a porch. Need to anchor structural urethane porch post to a concrete slab.
These posts are steel pipe wrapped in foam.
How do I anchor the bottom of the posts to the concrete slab?, for that matter, how do I anchor the tops of these posts to the header?
-Thanks

Pardon my ignorance, but why are the pipes wrapped in urethane foam?
Normally you weld, say, a 1/4" plate to the bottom and attach it to the concrete with either red heads or all thread rods set in epoxy.
For the top you can weld a saddle like this one from Simpson Strong Tie.

*These are urethane posts, like Fypon. They have pipes running through the center to make them structural.
*b TVMDCSo I assume the urethane is decorative like fluted colonial columns? And for the interior sturctural pipes, what are they, galvanized plumbing pipes, rebar, solid steel rod, or steel columns like 3/16x4"?
*possibly 1-1/2" iron plumbing pipe. Didn't measure but that's what they look like. And you got the decorative part right.
*Hi Ryan,Sight unseen, I would guess that two seperate sleeve inserts welded to a plate would do the trick. For sections that were alone the porch the bottom and top plates would be the same size as the column base on front and back, but extend out 2 inches on the sides for attachement with predrilled holes.Corner units would be the same size on one front and one side and extend on the back and one side to fit snug and flush at the corners. You could rotate this arrangement at the opposing corner.Make sure the pipe fits snuggly inside the pipe inserted inside the column. To prevent rotation, you could cut a matching key or slot in the pipes to lock them together.Gabe
*Ryan,Local suppliers hear carry a similar product, made of pvc with a pipe at the core. They come with a die-cast plate top and bottom for mounting. I'm sure they would work for your posts. Find someone who sells the pvc type in your area.Tom
*Ryan,Didn't these columns come with directions and an option to purchase the fastening systems that are compatible with them?
*b TVMDCGabe has an excellent idea with the sleeve inserts. You should also try Fypons website for detailed instructions.Let us know how you come out.
