I have a cousin that does glass, mostly automotive. Whenever he runs into some home glass replacement he often calls me to lend a quick hand. So I get a call from him this morning about replacing the glass in an Andersen unit. Apparently one of his auto customers had a seal break on an Andersen unit and Andersen sent replacement glass for warrantee but is not supplying labor to make the swap.
I’ve have done plenty of glass replacement and have installed manyy Andersen units over the years including some big fancy customs having me scared <blank>less that something was going to go wrong. However I have never replaced JUST the glass in an Andersen before. Nor have I examined a unit and said… So that’s how the glass would come out.
Have no doubts I can figure it out, but I’m bidding the job without having to coordinate with the customer a time to look at the unit, plus take a couple hours out of my day just to say “Yep that’s an Andersen alright.”
I’d like to find a diagram online on how the glass comes out of a fixed sash so I know up front if this is something I’m going to be fighting with for a few hours or will it take me longer to get the tools out of the truck? I’m not having any luck finding anything on line. Can somebody point me to a online diagram or provide some insight here?
Thanks

fixed?
Casement or DH?????
Tell the owner
to go a step further and have the manufacturer supply re-glazing instructions along with any parts that might be needed.
Fixed sash.

If Andersen does have re-glazing instructions, I'm hoping they are posted online somewhere. The idea is to know what’s involved to bid the job. The homeowner indicated if its too much $ he’ll just do it himself. Not sure what “too much” is so I don’t want to invest a lot of time in this bid.
DanH, I have never heard of that before either. I kept asking my cousin... You saw this glass, and it had no sash, it was just glass right???
