Mike or anybody else that has experience with these things: My local Alumapole dealer is ABC roofing which is where I buy a lot of my materials. They are very knowledgeable about roofing materials, but don’t know diddly squat about certain other things ( alumapole for instance ). They’re having a sale ( even tho this stuff is special order ) and by my best figuring 3 poles (36′), two 20″x24′ pics (to walk on), two 14″x24′ pics (for work bench), 3 jacks and bench supports, netting and ends will run me about $5000.00. I intend to have my top supports fabricated ( you readin’, Sphere). My questions are: 1) Does this sound like a good price? 2) I have two 14″x24′ pics already. Can they be used for the workbench or must I use proprietary pics? Thanks in advance.

green.. i could look up my pricing tomorrow.. but i've never bought 36' poles..
i have 12', 24' & 18's.. and i also have a couple 6' extender sleeves so i can stack my poles in any combination..to get 36', i'll stack 24 & 12 with the 6' connector.. i'll try and price it that way..
drop me an email to remind me ..

as for the work bench... the proprietary ones look good.. but we mix and match our pics...
the 20" alumapole is great.... so is the 14".. if you already have some 24' pics.. you can use those and decide on the 14" at a later date...

I meant 36' of pole ( 24'+12'+6' connector). Thanks to you and Hammer. They say only their planks can be used in the info, but I assumed otherwise. Don't bother to look up pricing. I'll either find another source to compare to (I already costed out tube scaffolding and it was about the same cost new - but I never buy it new ). I've never seen anyone around Lexington use this stuff, but I've lusted after it for years. I don't need it right now so I'll bide my time and maybe locate some used somewhere.

$5160.. for a 48' long x 36' high.. includes
960 for (2) 14") pics
also 6 arms.. because you need 2 on each pole if you go over 24' highMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Yeah, those things are expensive, especially if you get everything at once. I didn't know they made 36', that's a long pole to be driving around with. Are you sure they aren't a 24 & a 12. If you are going up that high, they recommend braces at intermediate stages. The netting hooks are fairly adaptable but they won't fit some planks. The ends only fit their planks. When both planks meet on a bracket you need some kind of connection. I don't have their planks so I made up a joining plate. You don't want one of the planks to slip off the bracket while you're working and they don't rest on much. Don't forget the pole anchor feet too. I also use padlocks on all the chains to keep them from walking away. The factory braces come either adjustable or fixed. You don't have to have them on the pole to set up. They have a gate that opens so you can attach the braces to the wall and then lift the pole. Can't comment on the price, mine are 6-7 yrs. old.

CU,
I'm looking for an online source for Alumapole equipment. I thought you had posted some site from Louisana a few years ago, but can't seem to find it using the search function (surprise, surpries...). Can you direct me to the right place? Thanks a lot.

Jon - I can't remember what that place was called. I ended up getting my stuff from ABC Supply (there's probably one near you). Prices were about the same and there were no shipping charges. http://www.abcsupply.com/contact/branch_details.asp?IDQ=82"Let's go to Memphis in the meantime, baby" - John Hiatt.http://grantlogan.net/

Thanks Grant,I was looking at ABC's site today. I have some pricing from Ted Lansing (siding supplier, I think they're regional) and there are better than ABC.Did you end up getting the Alum-A-Pole brand pics? I'm thinking that's what we are going to want since they can be joined on the same pump jack with no 6", heart attack inducing step.

I got Werner, but the poles and jacks are made by Alumapole - the pics are Werner and they nest together. There was a 10% rebate when I bought mine, IIRC.
