Another drafting/CAD software rehash
I have to produce several pages of drawings for an upcoming job. My usual drawings are done by hand and are simple, things like a sketch showing a few tile details or a cabinet elevation. It’s time to start doing it on the computer. So… how about a budget of $100-200, a low or moderate learning curve, hopefully some pre-fab items like toilets or door swings, etc. What are you using and do you recommend it?

Wow, should have read before posting my question.
So, it's okay to submit hand drawn plans to the building department in your area?
You can definitely submit hand-drawn plans. As long as they are clear they will accept them on a cocktail napkin... OK... three copies of a cocktail napkin.

LoL!
Has to be not smaller than 8 1/2 x 11" for my town (and folded specifically if bigger), and to a "known" scale. New construction: 15 copies for initial City Development review; 7 for Site Review, and 5 for Permit Review. Remodels go straight to Permit Review.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
In that price range, try Autosketch from AutoCad. About $125.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
I agree with Autosketch. The newest version only runs on WinXP. Since I don't have that on my computer I found the previous version for only $50 from a private party through Amazon. The program is everything I needed, simple yet powerful 2D. Plus there are lots of symbols available on the web for free

The current version ... 9 ... comes with lots of symbols.

You're right, there are lots of symbols right out of the box. But there are also lots and lots of free symbols out there on the web.
