Hey folks,
I am in the process of putting a new roof on a porch. The people who installed the last roof, covered the whole thing with Grace then did a poor job putting down rolled roof with a sparce amounts of roofing tar and nails. I have just ripped off the old roofing and the Grace is in good shape so I left that down. I plan to put down half-lap with blind nail cement. Does anyone see a reason to put down felt paper in this situation? I plan to adhere the half-lap directly to the Grace. Any problems with this? There is no interior living space under this roof and the house is in the Northeast. Thanks for any advice.

Are there are guidelines on the Grace website about adhering to their product?

forget the half lap exept for the woodshed and calf barn.
There are peel'n'stick, mineral surfaced, re-inforced roll roofing such as Polyglas out there

Wow! Very cool. Can I put this stuff ontop of Grace Ice and Water Shield? That's already down and in good shape. Thanks for you advice on this. That roof looks great. Also, it looks as though you have calked the seams of your sheathing. What do you use for that? Thanks for the advice. Learning a lot here!

I don't know about putting on Grace - I'd talk to the manufacturer - if it's well-adhered, I don't see why not, unless it's hard to bond to.
I just caulked the seams in the sheathing / decking with Alex plus because it was about to rain, and it preserves the ply edges a little smoother until I can get the membrane on the next day, and keeps rain ot of the house. Definately block under all joints or use T&G.

the polyglas type product will go right over the I&W.
the polyester type coating he showed is a fairly decent product if applioed carefully, but I can't say if it will adhere to the existing grace.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the advice and help on this. I am going to try and track down the polyglas re-inforced roll roofing and bag the half-lap/tar route.
