Just recently finished up a trim job using MDF beadboard 3/4″ floor to ceiling entire condo and home depot 5/16″ bead mdf panels for ceilings and one bath received the home depot material as a wainscoat, primed one side
I was just a sub contractor on this job, and general had us nailing and gluing (back side) tight as a gnats aze, their is virtually no room for expansion what so ever, (ie: corners, floor to ceiling, wall to wall)
This is the first time I’ve ever worked with mdf, and it is my understanding that this material tends to grow a little. This area will have alot of humidity, as I can spit into Lake Michigan off the back deck. I expressed my concern, but was told to do as asked, ( not my rodeo).
The question I have is what is this material going to do.
Did I mention also that there was a area that got crown molding and a sprinkler head was in the way, so instead of moving head they just covered over with crown, glad I wasn’t their that day and my hands didn’t touch that part of job.
The material that is on the walls sits on top of the existing base, and hits a batten board at ceiling. The ceiling material is fit between battens that are installed on the ceiling prior to the installation of home depots bead panels.
My curiosity is really wondering what this type of install is going to do.

Thought I would give this a bump as I posted late last night and didn't get much air play.
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks
Did I read that right they covered a sprinkler head. Start looking for a new rodeo operator as this one will get horned soon.
Yep I figure the fire marshall will make his yearly inspect of the resturant below and maybe want to see the condo above. Hope he doesn't have a diagram or some kind of count on heads or heads will roll.
humidity is not the concern with mdf so much as with wood. Mdf does move with temp though. Aslong as the temps remain at normal room temperatures, there will be little movement.
