steve... too general.. what's the problem, where do you live , and what are you trying to do ?
*Mike,Just trying to sort out the BS I got from the sales people.Mixed Climate.
*solid wood.
*My neighbor is in the trade and just built a spec house up the street. He used Andersen "contractor" windows (I think I am getting the model right) Anyhow, they are wood casings with vinyl clad sashes. (casement style) Seems like a good marriage. I am building a garage with loft above--see "clerestory garage" post in the gallery (I am not in the trade, as you will see by my photos ;-) On that I used Vinyl purely for price. I am going to try and trim them out with painted 2x cedar on the outside for looks. I will post the results. Not sure how I will trim the inside yet, but I will no doubt come up with something just slightly more complicated than my abiities.Solid wood is great and pretty, but wow $$$$. Does any builder out there have some rough rules of thumb for window cost as a percentage of the construction costs?
*% of construction costs: usually 5-10%. Vinyl cheaper, Marvin more expensive...
