I have been finding small ants floating in our bathtub. I initially assumed that they were coming up from the traps until i cleaned the aerators on my faucets and found ant pieces had clogged them all up. After checking all parts of the water system, I found that my old hot water heater was literally full of thousands of little tiny ants. My well head is clean and shows no evident trace of ants or even a spider web. My in-line water filter which resides between the accumulator tank and the hot water heater only had a couple of bodies in it. The accumulator tank was free of ants. The water system is only 5 years old, with the exception of the hot water tank which is a LP gas unit that is probably 15-20 years old. Where are these cotton pickers coming from and how do I assure they will not return?
I have changed out the hot water heater to a new model and chlorinated the whole water system, and so far my aerators are reasonably clean. Any ideas?
