Any Experience with Velux Solar Powered Operable Skylights?
Hello All,
We are adding several operable skylights as part of a remodel. I have easy access to provide power to each location. Velux really promotes their “wireless” solar power operable skylights. One selling point is that they qualify for the Federal 30% solar credit, making them effectively cheaper than the wired versions. I am skeptical of the long term performance. So, a few questions:
1) Anyone had experience with these, especially longer term (not sure how long they have been on the market)? Any pros and cons
2) Could a solar powered skylight be converted back to wired later (I think I will run wire to the area now, while it is easy, even if it is not needed now)
3) continuing the theme, Velux offers factory installed solar operated blinds. Any experience?
I am in Michigan, if that matters. Not sure if this post belongs in General or Building Techniques or Green
Thanks,
Doug

I bet a solar product won't run on AC w/o a transformer.
IIRC, Solar panel output is usually DC, so the motor is going to be DC as well. That 120V line will be useless w/o a transformer.
Just thinking.
Good luck.
