Maybe for one blade.
For longer blade life. Blades fit older model 2040.

Have you seen it? Heard it run?
I have an old 12" that I finally rebuilt a couple years ago after...geez, must be close to 20 years of hard use.
Pretty hard to go wrong with Makita, epecially at a price like that. Even if it needs bearings, springs and rollers you'd only be looking at a couple hundred bones.
I'd drive 100 miles to have a look at one at that price.
Heck, you might even luck into the 15"planer/6" jointer combo machine. Now THAT was one sweet tool.
I'll eat your peaches, mam. I LOVE peaches!
missed it.....
why people put ads on craigslist without a phone number drives me crazy. by the time he finally emailed me someone else had snagged it...
thanks larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
They're scarce, man. I have been keeping my eye out for one for years.
On a similar note, happened to see a classified ad a few years ago (pre Craig's list days) that read something like "local carpenter hanging them up, lots of hand and shop tools"- listed a few of each includung a W+H moulding machine...jumped in the truck and raced into cell phone range only to have the guy's wife answer the phone and chuckle when I asked about the machine.
"Sold it before dawn the first day the ad ran" she said.
Only one of those I've ever seen for sale locally.
I got to tell you man, the classifieds are getting smaller and smaller what with ebay and Craig's list.
So tell me, are you all jazzed up to find another one now? The thrill of the hunt got you now? Been there many, many times.
I'll eat your peaches, mam. I LOVE peaches!
i can't get to jazzed, around here you just don't see good equipment for sale, i would love to find a nice cabinet saw,but i haven't even seen one for sale for a couple of years. this was the first makita planer i had seen, there has been some large comm. planers but they are usally 3 phase so that puts me out.
maybe the guy who bought it will find out blades cost a bunch and relist it........................................... larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
One of my regrets in life is selling my 2040 planer (and 2010 8" jointer) some years ago. For that kind of money, if it's in any kind of decent shape, run, don't walk. The good- leaves a very nice surface ....... as good as any planer I've seen. It's dead nuts reliable; mine had thousands of bf run through it with nary an issue. It runs off 120v; mine got moved around to different jobs and being able to run on 120v as a good thing. The bad- it runs off 120v. Makita uses a universal motor, reliable but loud and certainly not as powerful as the 220v induction motors most planers this size use. You won't be (or shouldn't be) hogging 1/4" at a time on a 14" wide board. I'd check the infeed/out rollers. iirc they're urethane aand do wear. Makita still has 'em new but you may have to change your drawers when you find out how much they cost. There are outfits that will recoat the rollers for a lot less. I had four sets of knives for mine- 2 HSS and 2 carbide. The carbide knives last far longer but don't leave as nice a finish as the HSS; there was a bit of "peach fuzz" left over when using the carbide knives. I left the the shipping skids on it and added 4 casters, made it easier to move around. There was also an available gear reduction to reduce the feed rate; I never saw the need as the original feed rate left a very nice surface. Check the aftermarket for knives; you should be able to save some $.
