yes -mac powerbook 3400c - works great
*Yeah, it'd make a good lunch table. Do you think I could use it for a big shim?Blue
*Bill, where will your laptop go when you stand up to use it? BB
*Fred must be on vacation...Dan Morrison
*I use an IBM Thinkpad, very small, weighs about 5 pounds, works great.
*If you are looking for a laptop that will take the abuse of a job site, there are several small companies that make "ruggedized" (their term, not mine) laptops. They are designed to cater to utilities (phone, elect., etc.) who provide them to their field workers, where they get a lot of pounding. They are not cheap ($3,000 +), and they tend not to use the most recent technology (what a surprise for phone company use!), but they do hold up. I can't remember any names right now, but I will ask someone I know who did some work in this area.
*Swede - Do you have that info, I'm curious about it. The three-year full warrantee on my Thinkpad (see above post) expired in Jan., and guess what, the wiring harness between screen and body self-destructed about a week after I wrote that message . Nobody makes the part, haven't found used replacement part, blah blah blah.....Ed
*Check out this site for tough laptops. Titainum cases and sealed drives, very cool!http://www.panasonic.ca/products/toughbook/index.html
*Thanks - they look pretty interesting . Have you heard anything about them? ( I didn't know Panasonic built computers).
*First saw them on C-Net TV show, they were pretty impressed with them. I don't have any hands on, but all I have heard has been positive.
*FWIW, one of the PC mags did a piece on the heavy duty panasonics within the past 3 or 4 months. I didn't read it, but it might be worth looking for.Bob
*Actually, there was just an article in the NY Times in the "circuits" section, either yesterday or the day before. You can probably check it out on their website "www.NYTIMES.com", I think. If you can't find it, email me & I'll try to fax you a copy of the article. It mentions a few suppliers. It starts out by telling the story of some guy who got thrown around in his van during the Tornados in Oklahoma last week....he broke his wrist, the van got trashed, and the laptop kept running.
